Modern Warfare 4 DMZ: Hajin Map, Enemies, POIs & Exclusion Zone Conditions
Modern Warfare 4‘s DMZ revolves around a simple concept: getting to Hajin is just half the battle. The challenge is to figure how far you can push an operation before the increasing risk makes extraction more enticing than one more fight.
Hajin is the huge Exclusion Zone where the DMZ is set. It includes urban areas, rural communities, military bases, industrial parks, rivers and areas with very high levels of toxic pollution. The map is also built with a dynamic Threat system, meaning danger in any particular area can increase as Operators cause chaos.
Activision has released another close look at the DMZ, this time focusing on the huge Hajin map, detailing the forces you’ll face, major Points of Interest (POIs), vehicles, map intel and Threat levels. Modern Warfare 4 is set to release on October 23, 2026 and include DMZ as part of the whole game.
Here is everything we know so far about the Hajin map and how its systems are supposed to shape up for DMZ deployments.
What Is Hajin in DMZ Wonder: What is Hajin in DMZ mode in Warzone?
Is there a map or something? Hajin is the main EDZ in W4’s DMZ mode.
Hajin, the primary Exclusion Zone for MW4’s DMZ mode.
Instead of operating like a traditional multiplayer map with rounds that you play, and then leave – Hajin is teller-style, open-combat combat zone where Operators can loot, complete missions, fight AI enemies and encounter rival players before exfiltrating with what they’ve collected.
It is set in the aftermath of the Modern Warfare 4 campaign. The official DMZ materials describe Hajin as a war-ravaged area formerly part of North and South Korean territory.
This divide in geography also plays into map character. Western and Northern sectors are dominated by open wilderness and farmland and military installations, while parts of Hajin City are dense urban areas with high-rises, shopping malls, stadiums, and even heavily fortified complexes.
There isn’t a uniform battlefield outcome. A squad working its way through open country will face very different challenges than one moving through urban sprawl or into a contaminated nuclear complex.
Establishing this distinction is one of the most important things you need to know before you deploy.
When will Modern Warfare 4 DMZ release?
Modern Warfare 4 with its new DMZ extraction experience will be available globally on October 23, 2026.
The game has been confirmed on PlayStation 5 , Xbox Series X|S, PC via Battle.net, Xbox on PC and Steam, and also Nintendo Switch 2. The game will not be releasing on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Campaign Early Access starts October 16 for eligible digital pre-orders, but don’t mistake that for a full DMZ release. In Activision’s official press materials, the full game including DMZ will be available on October 23.
How The Hajin Exclusion Zone Operation Works
DMZ, on the other hand, plays more like deployments than typical multiplayer rounds.
Before they go Hajin, they gear up an Operator and equipment, watch their objectives, and decide how they want to tackle the operation.
One of the pieces of official DMZ guidance is to mix combat, looting, and objectives rather than spend a whole deployment sifting through container. You can also earn Supplies Drops through completing Dynamic
Operations, which the quality of gets better the more you succeed in operations.
This is the crucial risk-versus-reward loop.
A squad can extract early with the gear they brought in and any completed tasks, or go farther into the region for potentially more rewards. More time for exposure and there’s more odds for a team to up.

Can Threat Levels Be Reduced?
Yes.
The official Hajin guide details methods of reducing enemy aggression.
The situation can calm down if a squad stops causing continuous disruption, breaks the enemy line of sight and moves away. Players can take cover, move to less threatening zones, use stealth and avoid remaining in visual or audio contact with enemies.
This gives stealth a practical application beyond just avoiding damage.
For instance, a squad approaching a high-threat facility does not necessarily need to shoot every soldier it encounters. Suppressed weapons, melee eliminations and throwing knives can keep you more discreet when possible.
Stealth is not without its risks as a result. It just gives players another tool to control the battlefield.
Additionally, Human Operators are not represented in the Threat indicator, so a Low-threat zone may still harbor a very dangerous enemy squad.
This is a key distinction for anyone in DMZ who is relying on the HUD to tell them how safe they are.
Drones, Dog and Helicopter Units
Hajin’s hostile were not limited to infantry.
Activision has announced a number of autonomous and mobile threats:
- Autonomous Combat Droneswarm
- Autonomous LMG Battle Drones
- Autonomous K9 Quadrupeds
- Attack Infantry Helicopter (AHH) Patrols
- Road Convoys
It’s the K9 units, in particular, that tend to be surprising underground.
That’s a another layer to Hajin to explore. Operators should not assume an ostensibly quiet area is safe just because there aren’t any soldiers on the surface to be seen.
The official map guidance also help players map out rural and forest areas for underground entrances.
Hajin Major POIs
Hajin has over 60 named locations, plus many more minor locations and landmarks.
The official guide breaks down the map into major operational zones with very different environments and danger levels.
Below are the confirmed major POIs at this time.
14th Political Prison
The 14th Political Prison is a heavily fortified prison complex in northwest Hajin, in former North Korean territory.
The main sections are the Prison, Prison Yard & Citadel, and the Threat Levels are High to Critical.
The Citadel is especially dangerous, with raised walkways, prison blocks, industrial zones, and several places where opponents can flank an approaching squad.
This is not the kind of POI where entering through the front door is ever a good idea.
The surrounding forest and land offer possible approaches, and the building itself is a mix of vertical and close-quarters combat.
Chang-san Air Base
In western Hajin, Chang-san Air Base is one of the map’s largest military installations.
The exterior of the base has a Critical expected Threat Level, while the underground bunker has an Extreme Threat Level.
The base is integrated into a granite hillside, with surface structures including a hospital, helipad, runway, barracks, and supply areas. More significantly, the base has a large underground network.
For squads looking for high-value military POIs, Chang-san is an obvious early candidate. For inexperienced teams, the Extreme bunker environment makes this an especially risky POI to explore without preparation.
Deadtown is a desolate “ghost town,” with a minimum population of one in season three.
Deadtown, Once a minor farming community in southwest Hajin.
But Deadtown, the Re-Education Center takes the risk to Medium.
The town has old homes, new ones, military storerooms, clinics and gas stations.
Due to its somewhat open design it may also be a nice place to get the hang of moving and looting for beginners before tackling some of Hajin’s harder locations.
Imjin Farmland
Imjin Farmland is a long stretch of farm land at the bottom left of the map.
The section consists of the following:
- Rice fields
- Waterways
- Farms
- Rail lines
- Factories and Warehouses
- Jeong Loading Dock
- Rice Mill
The terrain is fairly level and long sight lines are a common feature.
That leads to a separate fighting challenge than tight urban (POIs). “More use” for LMGs and coordinated movement, “less so” of the natural cover making for deadly careless rotations.
The Rice Mile also offers a raised vantage point over the neighboring farmland.
Cheongun Village
Cheongun Village sits just North of the new Hajin map (and close to the border with Russia).
The majority of the village has Low expected Threat levels, but the Heavenly Luck Casino is High. The casino is a large multi-floor building with underground parking and various interior zones.
Night-vision gear is recommended as well, because electricity isn’t always available in certain areas of the game, the official guide notes.
What We Know—and What’s Still Unclear
An official deep dive published on October 5 revealed a great deal about Hajin, though some details about how DMZ will work in the live game have yet to be confirmed.
Confirmed Details
Hajin is the Exclusion Zone for Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ mode, which launches alongside the game on October 23, 2026. The map features more than 60 named locations, and each point of interest has a Threat level. Player activity can raise that level, while backing off and lowering enemy awareness can bring it down.
The confirmed threats include several classes of North Korean soldiers, along with drones, K9 units, helicopters and convoys. Lieutenants and major Commanders will also appear. Radiation poses a danger near the Haneul Nuclear Reactor, while automated trains and trams travel throughout Hajin. Rival human Operators are another part of the DMZ experience.
Activision has shared details about several major points of interest and smaller locations across the map.
What’s Still Unknown
Information released before launch doesn’t specify the exact loot available at every location, the final balance of enemy types or whether Hajin will change after the game comes out.
Activision says more DMZ details are on the way, including information about the Forward Operating Base and progression systems. Until then, it’s worth remembering that pre-release announcements offer only a preview—not a complete picture of what playing the game will be like.
